Summer Meal Program

The number of locations where students can receive free meals from has grown, thanks to new locations offering meals through the annual Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).

SFSP provides children with nutritious meals during the summer, and the USDA recently released a Nationwide waiver extension which allows sponsors to offer summer meals no matter the economic conditions in the area.

Summer meal programs help children aged 18 and under get the nutrition they need to learn, play, and grow during the summer. This federally-funded program is sponsored by many organizations throughout our state, including schools, nonprofit organizations, local governments, tribes, and more.

SFSP is separate from meal programs operated by the school district during school closures, which may be continuing to providing meals over the summer. Contact your district for more information.

To find a Summer Meals site near you, please use a Summer Meals Locator: Text “food” or “comida” to 877–877, or you can also find summer meal sites online.

When Your Students are Back in School – Check out Food Service!

Food Service, which is part of the Family Access module, allows guardians to view their current account balance and payment history; see what their children are eating; view application status for free and reduced meals; and, if your school offers an online payment option, load their account using a check, credit, or debit card. You can even set up automatic notifications when lunch balances are low.

From hot lunch head counts to food allergies, sometimes a few hours can make all the difference. New students are automatically available in the Food Service system, alerts are readily available to keep your students safe, and student pictures appear when students are on their way through the lunch line.

Food Service is a great product that puts the power in the hands of guardians and reduces the amount of time schools spend answering questions about meal accounts and student spending.

To learn more about how Food Service can help your district, contact your information Service Center.
