The West Valley SD is playing a major role in utilizing the WESPaC Standards Based GradeBook (SBGB) to expand student achievement reporting at the middle school level.
While many recognize the value of the Standards Based GradeBook (SBGB) at the elementary level, West Valley and other forward thinking districts are using it to tie together state standards, district curriculum, and classroom assessments for middle schoolers. In June, Jim Fannin of West Valley Middle School presented the West Valley model to a packed session at the WASA-AWSP Summer Conference. The interest from other districts ran high as Jim explained the many benefits West Valley is experiencing by centralizing data access through the SBGB program. Teachers, parents and students all benefit from direct access to expanded achievement reporting available with SBGB. Hats off to West Valley for their dedicated effort to align standards, curriculum and achievement reporting in a single view!
Located amidst the gently rolling hills at the foot of the Cascade Mountains, West Valley is the third largest district in the Yakima Valley. It currently serves 4,500 students distributed among 6 elementary schools, the middle school, a junior high and a high school campus. The district is lead by Superintendent Dr. Peter Ansingh towards its mission to ensure that all students achieve their highest level of knowledge and skills with a responsible and productive attitude.
